Arun Sao, Deputy CM of Chhattisgarh, Labels INDIA Bloc as an 'Opportunistic Coalition' Amidst Speculation of Internal Conflicts

Raipur, Jan 11 (NationPress) The Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Arun Sao, voiced his criticism of the INDIA bloc on Saturday, emphasizing his long-held view that it is an opportunistic coalition from its inception.

In an interview with IANS, Sao stated, “When the INDIA bloc was established, we declared it an opportunistic coalition. They attempted to unite against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but there is a significant absence of ideological unity or coordination among its members. This coalition is unlikely to succeed.”

He pointed out that the disunity within the bloc is becoming increasingly evident, asserting, “This has always been an opportunistic coalition, and this fact is being reiterated time and again.”

Sao's comments surfaced amid rising dissatisfaction within the coalition, with parties such as Shiv Sena (UBT), RJD, and National Conference recently advocating for the dissolution of the INDIA bloc, questioning its relevance.

On Saturday, Sanjay Raut, a leader of Shiv Sena (UBT), announced that his party would independently contest the forthcoming local body elections. He told reporters that the INDIA bloc and the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliances were only relevant for Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. “In an alliance, individual party workers miss out on opportunities, which hinders organizational growth. We will fight elections in Mumbai, Thane, Nagpur, and other municipal corporations, zilla parishads, and panchayats based on our strength,” he remarked.

Arun Sao also addressed controversial comments made by Chandrashekhar Azad, the leader of the Azad Samaj Party and MP from Nagina, regarding the Maha Kumbh. Azad had implied that only those who have committed sins would participate in the Kumbh. Sao condemned these remarks, labeling them as unfortunate and disrespectful to the beliefs of millions.

“The Maha Kumbh has always been an eternal and mythological representation of faith and devotion. While it’s acceptable for someone not to believe, it is inappropriate to demean others’ beliefs,” he said.

Sao further addressed the issue of religious conversions in Chhattisgarh, confirming that the state government is taking substantial measures to combat this issue. He stated, “Our government is serious about addressing conversions. Since taking office, we have been consistently acting on this matter. In the near future, we are considering implementing a robust and effective law regarding this issue.”
