Chhattisgarh, May 2 (NationPress) - Arun Sao, the Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, criticized the Congress party on Friday for attempting to take credit for the caste census, asserting that they had failed to support it during their time in power.
This remark surfaces amid an intense political discussion following the Centre's recent declaration to incorporate caste enumeration in the forthcoming general census. Both the ruling BJP and opposition parties, including Congress, are eager to present themselves as proponents of this initiative.
In an interview with IANS, Arun Sao remarked, "The BJP does not seek recognition for our actions. We make decisions that prioritize the nation and its citizens. The Congress is now attempting to claim credit, but they must first explain their contributions for the Backward Classes from 1951 to the present day, whether they were in power at the Centre or in state governments."
He accused the Congress of manipulating the Backward Classes for electoral gains without implementing any substantial measures for their benefit.
“They have consistently promised support to the Backward Classes, yet when in power, they neglected the caste census. In fact, they have frequently opposed it. Now, they seek acknowledgment for it. It is Prime Minister Narendra Modi's groundbreaking decision to advance the caste census,” he stated.
Arun Sao also addressed the recent terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir that resulted in the death of a businessman from Chhattisgarh.
"In the terror incident at Pahalgam, our state’s young businessman Dinesh Mirania tragically lost his life. His family is devastated and shocked by this unexpected tragedy. At this difficult time, the government, led by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, stands resolutely with the grieving family. The decision to provide Rs 20 lakh in assistance demonstrates the government's compassion, aimed at offering the family some stability and strength during this painful period," he added.
Dinesh Mirania, a businessman from Raipur, was celebrating his wedding anniversary with his family in Kashmir's Pahalgam when the unfortunate incident occurred. He was killed in front of his wife and two children during the attack.
The terrorist attack at Baisaran, a well-known tourist location in Pahalgam, transpired on April 22, resulting in at least 26 fatalities and numerous injuries.
