New Delhi, Oct 12 (NationPress) A collaborative civil-military trek to Athupopu was officially launched on Sunday from the Anini Military Garrison in the Dibang Valley, covering a remarkable span of 20 days through the stunning landscapes of Arunachal Pradesh.
This exceptional expedition is a tribute to unity and exploration in the forward areas, nurturing deeper civil-military integration and a spirit of collective faith.
Situated at an altitude of 3,500 metres near the India-China border, Athupopu is cherished by the Idu Mishmi tribe as a sacred location—a mythical portal for souls embarking on their eternal journey.
The trek symbolizes the rich spiritual and cultural heritage of the region, underscoring the importance of outreach and harmony in India’s remote border territories.
By marching side by side, Indian Army personnel and civilians exemplify the motto “Soldiers as Citizens in Uniform,” fostering mutual understanding and respect.
This enduring collaboration serves as a testament to nation-building efforts and the strong ties that develop between the Army and the inhabitants of Dibang Valley.
“This enduring partnership stands as a testament to nation-building efforts and the resilient bonds that flourish between the Army and the people of Dibang Valley,” stated Lieutenant Colonel Mahendra Rawat, PRO Defence Guwahati.
Notably, Maliney is the last motorable village in the Dibang Valley district, located approximately 200 km from Roing, the district headquarters of Lower Dibang Valley.
Numerous legends and mythological stories associated with the hills and paths leading to Athupopu captivate all who journey through.
This marks the fourth edition of this joint civil-military trek expedition, following the previous one in 2023.
“I am pleased that the third edition of the Joint civil-military religious and adventure trek to this esteemed site in Dibang Valley is being launched in the second week of September,” remarked Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu in 2023. “Facilitated by the Dao Division, Spearcorps of the Indian Army, the trek is organized in partnership with the district administration and tourism department to enhance civil-military camaraderie,” he added.
