Itanagar, March 30 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Pema Khandu, announced on Sunday that the state's per capita income has surged by 105 percent when compared to 2016, while the GST collection has seen an impressive increase of 584 percent.
During a developmental meeting in Shergaon, located in the West Kameng district, Khandu highlighted that the state's own resources, which were merely Rs 900 crore in 2016, have skyrocketed to over Rs 40,000 crore this year. He stated, “Reformation, performance, transformation is leading Arunachal Pradesh on the path of accelerated development,” and emphasized the substantial advancements the state has made in GSDP, state budget, per capita income, GST collection, and state-owned resources since he assumed office in 2016.
Khandu first joined the cabinet of Chief Minister Nabam Tuki in May 2011 and was reappointed in June 2014 following the Assembly elections. Later, he transitioned to the BJP and took on the role of Chief Minister on July 17, 2016.
The Chief Minister reported that Arunachal Pradesh has achieved a remarkable 135 percent increase in GSDP since 2016. He expressed gratitude to all stakeholders—ranging from his cabinet and MLA colleagues to panchayat members and district officials—for the significant progress observed in the state over the past 8-9 years.
He stated, “We are fortunate to have a Prime Minister in Narendra Modi, who believes that India will prosper only when the Northeast progresses,” and called upon ‘Team Arunachal’ to maintain the momentum of progress, noting that Arunachal Pradesh is now a focal point of discussion nationwide.
Khandu explained, “The reason is not solely that we share international borders with three nations (China, Myanmar, and Bhutan), but also due to our potential and rapid development across all sectors.” Highlighting road connectivity as a key factor in the state's growth, he noted that rural connectivity has surged by 251 percent and National Highways by 143 percent since 2016.
“Connecting nearly all previously unconnected areas and villages has been made possible by our forward-thinking Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Road Development Programme,” Khandu stated. To enthusiastic applause, he announced that the realignment of the OKSRT (Orang-Kalaktang-Shergaon-Rupa-Tenga) road has been approved, reducing the distance from Balemu to Kalaktang from the existing 50 km to approximately 19.2 km.
Earlier that day, Khandu inaugurated 14 projects valued at Rs 102 crore and laid the groundwork for 21 new projects worth Rs 126 crore for the Kalaktang Assembly constituency in the West Kameng district. The event was attended by the state’s Home Minister Mama Natung, BJP state President Kaling Moyong, local MLAs, former Chief Minister P.K. Thungon, former Speaker T N Thongdok, and the Chief Secretary, among others.
