While inaugurating two new blocks—one academic and one administrative—at the Dorjee Khandu Government College in Tawang, Khandu stated that this new infrastructure represents a significant step towards cultivating the next generation of thinkers, leaders, and change-makers from the mountainous region of Arunachal Pradesh.
The Chief Minister emphasized the transformative changes under NEP-2020, asserting that all educational institutions in the state are being fortified to align with the national framework.
He expressed pride that, in a short time, the Dorjee Khandu Government College has become one of the most disciplined and result-driven institutions in Arunachal Pradesh.
Khandu encouraged students to maintain this tradition, saying, “Discipline is the foundation of success. I urge all students to carry this value with you beyond this campus and throughout your professional journey.”
In response to a memorandum from the college principal, the Chief Minister revealed that the process to sanction additional faculty and ministerial staff is already in progress.
Khandu directed the Tawang Deputy Commissioner to collaborate with the principal regarding the procurement of furniture, boundary demarcation, and the issuance of a land allotment certificate, assuring that funds would be allocated for the construction of a boundary wall.
Recognizing the vital role of sports in education, Khandu proposed the development of a dedicated playground for the college near the Tawang Stadium. He suggested repurposing old structures in the vicinity and committed to phased development of further infrastructure in the coming years.
The Chief Minister expressed heartfelt gratitude to the college community for honoring the legacy of his late father, after whom the college is named, through the Karamveer Dorjee Khandu Merit Scholarship, which his family has been supporting.
Khandu announced a substantial increase in scholarship amounts starting this academic year. The awards, previously set at Rs 35,000 for first place, Rs 23,000 for second, and Rs 15,000 for third, have now been raised to Rs 5 lakh, Rs 3 lakh, and Rs 2 lakh, respectively.
Expressing pride in the college’s exceptional performance, Khandu noted that the institution has consistently maintained over 95 percent pass percentage, achieving 100 percent results in the last two academic sessions.
Commending Principal Dr Yeshi Gyetsen, the Chief Minister praised the institution for its rapid academic and infrastructural growth since its establishment in 2016 with a temporary structure.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Advisor (Education) Mutchu Mithi, MLAs Phurpa Tsering, Tsering Lhamu, and Namgey Tsering, along with Education Commissioner Amjad Tak and the Tawang Deputy Commissioner.
