New Delhi, July 14 (NationPress) Delhi's Home and Power Minister Ashish Sood is set to support the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision, tomorrow by planting a sapling in Janakpuri, as confirmed by an official.
In alignment with the ongoing Van Mahotsav organized by the Delhi government, the Minister will plant a sapling at the Municipal Corporation of Delhi park located in A-2 Block Ram Vatika within Janakpuri, the official stated on Monday.
This green initiative follows the participation of Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena in the special tree plantation drive conducted by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Sardar Patel Marg last Sunday, which is part of the national campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’.
According to NDMC Vice-Chairman and BJP leader Kuljeet Singh Chahal, the L-G planted an Amaltas (Cassia fistula) sapling, representing hope and resilience.
NDMC Chairman Keshav Chandra and BJP Lok Sabha MP Bansuri Swaraj jointly planted a Pride of India (Lagerstroemia speciosa) sapling.
Chahal also planted a Gulmohar (Delonix regia) tree, reinforcing NDMC's commitment to enhancing the green cover in the Capital.
During the event, Chahal highlighted NDMC's special ‘Gap Filling Campaign’, a strategic initiative launched on July 1 aimed at ensuring consistent green cover along 80 major roads, intersections, and roundabouts.
This year's campaign marks a significant expansion compared to previous years, with a focus on eliminating barren areas and replacing them with flourishing vegetation.
Chahal emphasized that this focused initiative, closely monitored by the NDMC's Horticulture Department, will not only beautify the city but also help in reducing urban air pollutants such as PM10, PM2.5, and PM1, thereby enhancing air quality and public health.
Under the guidance of the L-G, the Delhi government has also launched a large-scale greening project along Sardar Patel Marg, involving the planting of over 12,000 flowering trees and shrubs.
This initiative includes iconic species such as Amaltas, Queen's Crepe Myrtle, Rosy Trumpet Tree, and Bougainvillaea.
