Guwahati, Sep 8 (NationPress) In a significant move ahead of the forthcoming Assam Assembly elections, the Congress party has officially welcomed three former MLAs into its ranks, all while launching a pointed critique against the ruling BJP for its alleged corruption and corporate-style governance.
Former MLA of Sipajhar, Binanda Saikia, along with former Kamalpur MLA Satyabrata Kalita and former Karbi Anglong MLA Dr. Mansingh Rongpi, formally joined the Congress at Indira Bhawan in Guwahati.
The induction ceremony saw the presence of AICC General Secretary in charge of Assam, Jitendra Singh, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Gaurav Gogoi, and numerous senior party officials.
The Congress emphasized that the joining of these leaders, each influential in various regions of the state, indicates a growing discontent among both political figures and the general populace regarding the BJP-led government.
“People from all walks of life in Assam are seeking change. What has unfolded over the past years is the most corrupt administration in the state’s history – a government functioning like a private corporation led by Himanta Biswa Sarma. The rampant corruption and exploitation of public resources, coupled with divisive governance, have marked this regime,” stated Congress General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal in a post on X.
The Congress leadership underlined the party's commitment to strengthening its grassroots organization, presenting itself as a viable alternative to the BJP.
Gaurav Gogoi remarked that the party aims to focus on “restoring governance characterized by honesty, unity, and justice,” asserting that an increasing number of people are looking toward Congress for a government that prioritizes the public.
Insiders within the party noted that the inclusion of former MLAs would bolster its influence across various constituencies, especially in lower Assam and the hilly regions.
The APCC has been conducting a series of outreach initiatives statewide in preparation for the elections anticipated early next year.
With the BJP under scrutiny regarding rising prices, unemployment, and corruption, Congress leaders are confident that the sentiment is gradually shifting in their favor.
“The upcoming Assembly elections will be pivotal. The people of Assam will rally behind Congress to restore an inclusive and transparent government,” Venugopal asserted.
