Guwahati, Jan 16 (NationPress) In a significant move towards enhancing its renewable energy landscape, the Assam government is setting its sights on generating a minimum of 3,500 MW of solar power over the next five years.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted that this ambitious goal of reaching 3,500 MW solar capacity by 2030 emphasizes the government's commitment to clean, renewable, and sustainable energy.

He noted that solar energy will be pivotal in fulfilling the state's future energy requirements while diminishing reliance on fossil fuels.

This target illustrates Assam's dedication to aligning with India's national climate initiatives and progressing towards a low-carbon economy.

The Chief Minister revealed that the state has adopted a diverse strategy to enhance solar energy production, which includes utility-scale solar parks, rooftop solar installations, and decentralized solar solutions for rural and remote areas.

He emphasized that Assam's geographical advantages, combined with enhanced policy support, position the state perfectly for rapid solar expansion.

CM Sarma mentioned that the government is facilitating large-scale investments in solar projects through investor-friendly policies, efficient approvals, and upgraded grid infrastructure.

He indicated that public sector undertakings, private developers, and central agencies are being actively mobilized to speed up capacity building across various districts.

A key focus is the promotion of rooftop solar systems on government buildings, educational institutions, and healthcare facilities.

These initiatives are anticipated to lower energy costs for public infrastructure while showcasing the feasibility of clean energy solutions at the community level.

The Chief Minister stated that the expansion of solar energy will also create employment prospects, particularly for local youth, technicians, and entrepreneurs involved in installation, maintenance, and associated services.

He added that the renewable energy push aligns with Assam's broader objectives of economic growth, environmental stewardship, and energy security.

Officials have noted that the Assam government is also investigating hybrid renewable models that integrate solar with other clean energy sources while reinforcing transmission and distribution networks to facilitate increased renewable integration.

He concluded that the state's solar mission is not merely about megawatts but about constructing a resilient and future-ready energy infrastructure.

"With a clear target of 3,500 MW by 2030, Assam is determined to establish itself as a leading renewable energy state in the Northeast," he stated, adding that this transition will benefit both current and future generations.
