Assam Chief Minister Directs MLAs to Oversee Execution of Government Beneficiary Programs

Guwahati, Jan 3 (NationPress) Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has instructed party MLAs to execute the government beneficiary programs, ensuring that the advantages reach the individuals at the very end of the societal spectrum.
The upcoming panchayat elections are scheduled for this year, with the Assembly elections set for 2026. The BJP is preparing for these elections and has assigned ministers to manage electoral activities in various regions.
CM Sarma urged the MLAs to focus on achieving strong results in the panchayat elections. He pointed out that their performance in these local elections will play a crucial role in determining ticket distribution for the 2026 Assembly elections.
The Chief Minister also indicated that some MLAs might not receive tickets for the upcoming Assembly elections. He convened a meeting with the party MLAs to discuss the panchayat elections and the Assembly elections planned for next year.
In related news, CM Sarma recently dismissed allegations regarding the influx of Hindus from Bangladesh due to turmoil in the neighboring nation, asserting that security forces have not identified any Hindu Bangladeshi infiltrators in the past five months.
CM Sarma stated, “We have heightened the alert of security forces at the international border following the unrest in Bangladesh to prevent infiltration. The police have been able to identify numerous illegal immigrants daily along the international border; however, no Hindu infiltrator from Bangladesh has been apprehended in the last five months.”
The Chief Minister explained that members of the Hindu community immigrated from Bangladesh several decades ago, while others continue to reside in the neighboring country for various reasons. “Most of the Hindu individuals, who wished to migrate and settle in India, arrived 30 or 40 years ago. The remaining minority population has been living in Bangladesh despite facing significant oppression in that country. I believe they have personal reasons for remaining there—perhaps a fondness for their homeland or a sense of patriotism towards Bangladesh,” he mentioned.
CM Sarma also noted that the rate of Bangladeshi infiltration has increased recently due to the decline of the textile industry in Bangladesh, which has left many unemployed.
