Guwahati, May 15 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, together with Power Minister Prasanta Phukan, visited the designated location for a thermal power plant at Chirakuta Charuwa Bakra in Bilasipara Co-District of Dhubri district on Thursday.
This project site, located around eight kilometres from the Bilasipara railway station, covers an extensive area of 3,300 bighas, 2 kathas and 15 lechas.
During their visit, the Chief Minister and Power Minister, along with Dhubri District Commissioner Dibakar Nath and senior officials, inspected the site to evaluate its feasibility for the power project.
Sarma instructed the District Commissioner to initiate essential developmental measures to prepare the site for project implementation. Additionally, he reviewed pending infrastructure developments, including the construction of approach roads and vital facilities to support the establishment of the power plant.
Addressing land acquisition concerns, the Chief Minister promised that families required to relocate for the project would receive suitable alternative land for their rehabilitation.
The Assam government has ambitious plans to become energy self-sufficient, targeting a thermal power generation capacity of 5,000 MW by 2035.
To support this vision, the state has launched the Assam Thermal Power Generation Product Promotion Policy 2025, which has already drawn investment proposals totaling Rs 77.3 billion.
