Guwahati, May 14 (NationPress) The Assam Police apprehended two additional individuals on Wednesday for allegedly disseminating pro-Pakistan remarks across various social media platforms, as stated by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The suspects, identified as Sahin Ahmed Mazumdar and Intesab Ahmed Laskar, were arrested in Hailakandi and Cachar districts, respectively. This brings the total number of arrests related to pro-Pakistan support to 61.
Sarma commented, "To date, 61 anti-nationals have been detained for their acts of treachery." Among those arrested, the most notable is Aminul Islam, an MLA from the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), who was the first individual in the state to be arrested for his pro-Pakistan stance. He was taken into custody on May 1 on charges of sedition following his inflammatory statements regarding a terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that resulted in 26 casualties.
In a video that circulated on social media, the AIUDF leader asserts that the attacks in Pahalgam and Pulwama were orchestrated as part of a government conspiracy. Aminul Islam stated, "Six years ago during the Pulwama incident, I claimed that the blast was a result of a conspiracy by the Central government, aimed at influencing the 2019 Lok Sabha elections."
He further added that the BJP has propagated narratives suggesting that the terrorists targeted only Hindus while sparing Muslims. "However, victims reported that the assailants did not inquire about anyone's faith before opening fire, leading me to suspect that the same group involved in the Pulwama attack is behind the recent incident in Pahalgam," he mentioned.
"If the government led by Prime Minister Modi does not carry out a thorough investigation and instead seeks to create divisions between Hindus and Muslims, I will consider this incident a result of a conspiracy," Aminul Islam charged, implicating PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Nevertheless, AIUDF Chief Badruddin Ajmal distanced himself from Islam's remarks, asserting, "AIUDF supports the government. Terrorism has no religion, and those who propagate it are against Islam."
