Guwahati, March 11 (NationPress) The Assam Police successfully thwarted a significant drug trafficking attempt, seizing narcotics valued at ₹30 crore, as announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday.
During an operation in Cachar district, authorities confiscated over 80,000 Yaba tablets with an estimated international market value of at least ₹30 crore.
Sarma shared on his X handle, "Enormous Drug Seizure in Assam: 98,000 Yaba Tablets Taken Worth ₹30 Crore! Thanks to reliable intelligence, @cacharpolice initiated an anti-narcotics operation in Chandrapur Part II, Kakmara, under Lakhipur Police Station, leading to the apprehension of a suspect with 98,000 Yaba tablets valued at ₹30 crore and ₹3.5 lakh in cash."

In a related incident, Tripura Police recently confiscated over 1.06 lakh methamphetamine tablets valued at more than ₹5.5 crore and arrested three drug dealers.
The Superintendent of Police in West Tripura, Kiran Kumar K, reported that police conducted a raid based on confidential information on Thursday night at the residence of Mohammad Babul Miah (45) in the Mahiskhala Chandinnamura area, just outside Agartala, recovering the methamphetamine tablets, commonly referred to as Yaba or party pills.
The drugs have an estimated worth of ₹5.5 crore. Additionally, five smartphones and two motorcycles were seized.
Alongside Mohammad Babul Miah, two other suspects—Sipan Hussain (26) and Sanjay Miah (42)—were also taken into custody.
A specific case under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985 has been filed against all three, and they are expected to be presented in court later today.
The operation was led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Sadar) Deba Prasad Roy, along with officials from the West Agartala Police Station, as part of Tripura's intensified anti-drug initiatives aimed at achieving a drug-free state.
The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, who oversees the Home portfolio, praised the police for their successful drug seizure.
