Guwahati, March 25 (NationPress) The Assam Police successfully dismantled an interstate drug syndicate during an anti-narcotics operation, resulting in the seizure of drugs worth ₹20 crores, as announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday.

The operation took place near the Mizoram border, where authorities indicated that the substantial shipment of drugs originated from the neighboring state.

In a post shared on X, CM Sarma stated, “A total of 66,000 YABA tablets valued at ₹20 crore were confiscated from a residence located near the Assam-Mizoram border in Raj Gobindpur.”

He commended the police's dedication to combating narcotics.

A senior police official highlighted that narcotics are frequently trafficked into Assam from nearby states like Manipur and Mizoram.

Recently, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during a visit to the state, reaffirmed the government's strict stance against drug cartels following a significant operation targeting an international drug network in the northeast.

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) effectively dismantled the network through coordinated operations in Guwahati and Imphal, leading to the seizure of narcotics valued at ₹88 crore and the arrest of four individuals.

In a subsequent post on X, the Home Minister stated: “We show no leniency towards drug cartels. As part of the Modi government’s commitment to creating a drug-free Bharat, a large shipment of methamphetamine tablets worth ₹88 crore has been seized, and four members of the international drug cartel have been apprehended in Imphal and Guwahati.”

He praised the NCB's efforts, describing the operation as a product of an effective “bottom-to-top and top-to-bottom approach” to investigations.

“This drug haul is a clear indication of the success of this comprehensive strategy. Our search for drugs persists. Heartfelt congratulations to the NCB team,” the Home Minister added.

Last year, Amit Shah, while speaking at the 72nd plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) in Agartala, stated that the negative perceptions regarding drug-related activities in northeastern states should be addressed.

“Considerable efforts have been made to tackle the drug menace, but even more action is required from Chief Ministers and all stakeholders,” he noted.
