Guwahati, Sep 24 (NationPress) The Assam Police successfully dismantled an interstate drug trafficking operation and confiscated narcotics valued at Rs 90 crore, as reported by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday.
The operation, which led to the arrest of two suspects, took place in the Cachar district.
Authorities indicated that the drug shipment originated from a neighboring state. Acting on intelligence, a vehicle was stopped as it crossed into Cachar district in Assam.
Officials asserted that the international market value of the confiscated drugs is estimated at Rs 90 crore.
In a post on X, Sarma stated, "During an anti-narcotics operation, Cachar Police intercepted a vehicle from a neighboring state and seized 3 lakh YABA tablets. Two peddlers have been arrested, and the only high they will now experience is in jail," he added.
Additionally, Chief Minister Sarma noted that the battle against the drug trade is extensive, revealing that smugglers are increasingly utilizing innovative methods, including drones, for transporting narcotics.
He elaborated that traffickers employ modified strategies to deliver drugs from remote locations, a situation that poses significant risks.
"In Assam and Meghalaya, drug carriers have been predominantly active, and this is a protracted struggle for us. Nonetheless, traffickers are adopting various methods to transport their consignments, often utilizing drones as carriers for narcotics," he remarked.
Speaking to reporters, he emphasized: "The drug issue is substantial, and every state government is actively striving to thwart drug trafficking. Assam is combating the narcotics network with full force, maintaining a zero tolerance policy against drugs. I believe that ongoing operations against narcotics are essential to eliminate this problem from society."
The Chief Minister also mentioned that the masterminds behind the drug network are not based in India, but operate from foreign territories.
"The kingpins of the narcotics trade function from abroad through their agents. They employ every conceivable tactic to evade capture. For instance, if ten individuals travel together from Guwahati to Delhi, each carrying half a gram of heroin, it becomes exceedingly challenging to detect and apprehend them. Nevertheless, our security personnel are consistently working to stay one step ahead of drug peddlers, and this is how the Assam Police dismantle drug networks," CM Sarma concluded.
