Guwahati, May 23 (NationPress) The Assam Police successfully thwarted a drug trafficking operation in the Cachar district on Friday, as announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
During a meticulously planned operation, law enforcement seized narcotics estimated at Rs 3.11 crore.
This anti-drug initiative was executed based on reliable intelligence.
In a post on X, Sarma stated, “With intel support, @cacharpolice executed an operation near ISBT Silchar and detained a drug dealer with 622 grams of heroin, valued at ₹3.11 crore.”
“Our unwavering commitment to #AssamAgainstDrugs will persist. Excellent work @assampolice,” he added.
Earlier on Thursday, security forces in Manipur and Mizoram seized drugs worth more than Rs 5.7 crore. A defense spokesperson confirmed that the Assam Rifles successfully caught a drug trafficker and confiscated significant amounts of illegal narcotics from Noney district in Manipur during a nighttime operation.
The suspected dealer was traveling in a truck from Imphal to Jiribam via National Highway-37.
After receiving intelligence from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence regarding potential narcotics trafficking, Assam Rifles personnel stopped a vehicle fitting the description at a checkpoint in Noney.
During the search, authorities recovered 569.24 grams of heroin and substantial amounts of amphetamine/methamphetamine tablets from the arrested suspect.
The seized drugs, valued at Rs 5 crore, were hidden in 50 soap cases and 49 sachets.
In another operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) conducted a search in Vairengte, located in Kolasib district of Mizoram, based on specific intelligence, recovering 7.042 kg of pseudoephedrine tablets (a precursor chemical) valued at Rs 7.04 lakh.
One individual was arrested in connection with this seizure, according to a BSF spokesperson. Officials confirmed that all drugs were smuggled from neighboring Myanmar.
