Guwahati, Aug 8 (NationPress) On Friday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the Assam Police successfully dismantled an interstate drug trafficking operation and seized a substantial amount of narcotics. The operation took place in the Cachar district, leading to the arrest of two individuals on drug peddling charges.
The police confiscated 50 bags of cannabis from the accused.
In a post on X, CM Sarma stated, "The battle against drugs continues. In an intelligence-driven operation, @cacharpolice stopped a vehicle arriving from a neighboring state and seized 50 bags of cannabis. Two individuals have been detained, and they will soon face the consequences of their actions."
Previously, CM Sarma emphasized the extensive nature of the fight against the drug syndicate, revealing that smugglers have adopted innovative methods, including the use of drones, to transport narcotics.
He noted that traffickers are employing advanced tactics to deliver drugs from remote locations, which poses a significant threat.
"In Assam and Meghalaya, drug carriers are predominantly active, and our battle against them is ongoing. However, traffickers frequently utilize various methods, including drones, to transport narcotic shipments," he remarked.
Addressing reporters, he commented: "The drug problem is substantial, and each state government is making concerted efforts to thwart drug trafficking. Assam is combating the narcotics network with full force and maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy against drugs. I believe that persistent operations against drugs are essential to eliminate this issue from society."
The Chief Minister also pointed out that the leaders of the drug network often operate from outside India.
"The masterminds of the narcotics trade function from abroad through their agents. They employ every possible strategy to evade capture. For instance, if ten individuals travel from Guwahati to Delhi carrying half a gram of heroin each, it would be exceedingly difficult to apprehend them. Nevertheless, security teams are consistently working to stay ahead of drug traffickers, which is how the Assam Police successfully disrupts drug networks," CM Sarma concluded.
