Drugs Worth ₹68.03 Crore Confiscated in Mizoram

Aizawl, Dec 2 (NationPress) In a remarkable crackdown on narcotics in Mizoram, the Assam Rifles, in a coordinated effort with the state police, successfully seized a significant amount of drugs worth ₹68.03 crore on Monday in the Champhai district, which borders Myanmar.
According to sources from the Assam Rifles, the drugs were abandoned by Myanmar nationals during the operation as they escaped back to their homeland.
The sources further indicated that acting upon confidential intelligence, the troops of the Assam Rifles alongside the Mizoram police initiated operations in the Zokhawthar area, located along the India-Myanmar border, resulting in the seizure of 22.676 kg of Methamphetamine tablets packed in 19 packets.
During the operation, personnel observed a suspicious individual crossing the Tiau River carrying a brown sack.
When confronted, the drug dealer abandoned the sack and fled towards Myanmar.
An official statement from the Assam Rifles emphasized that this operation highlights their steadfast dedication, along with local authorities, to dismantle drug cartels operating in border regions.
The seized drugs have been transferred to the police in Zokhawthar for further investigation and legal action.
The Assam Rifles remains determined in its mission to secure the India-Myanmar border and protect the communities of Mizoram from the threat of narcotics trafficking, as stated in the report.
In a span of less than two weeks, the Assam Rifles, along with other law enforcement agencies, has conducted two separate operations that resulted in the seizure of drugs valued at ₹102 crore in Tripura and Mizoram.
On November 24, in a joint operation with Customs, the Assam Rifles confiscated one kg of Crystal Methamphetamine tablets valued at ₹16 crore from Badharghat, near the capital city of Agartala in Tripura.
Earlier, on November 20, a collaborative effort between the Assam Rifles and state police led to the seizure of 28.520 kg of Methamphetamine tablets, 52 grams of Heroin worth ₹85.95 crore, and a foreign pistol in three separate operations within the Champhai district of Mizoram.
Sources from the Assam Rifles reported that two Myanmar nationals were apprehended during these operations.
The regions of Mizoram, southern Assam, and Tripura have become easy pathways for drug smuggling operations originating from Myanmar.
Diverse narcotics, particularly heroin and highly addictive Methamphetamine tablets, are frequently trafficked into the northeastern states of India from Myanmar, which shares a 1,643-km unfenced border with four northeastern states – Arunachal Pradesh (520 km), Manipur (398 km), Nagaland (215 km), and Mizoram (510 km).
