Guwahati, Jan 15 (NationPress) Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Thursday that Assam is poised for a notable enhancement in railway connectivity. The state will welcome two new Amrit Bharat trains along with India’s inaugural Vande Bharat sleeper coach trains.
In a post on X, CM Sarma shared, “This weekend, Assam will experience a significant upgrade to its rail connectivity as the first Vande Bharat Sleeper train operates between Guwahati and Kolkata. Additionally, two new Amrit Bharat trains linking Lucknow and Rohtak will be inaugurated by the honorable @narendramodi ji.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to flag off the first Vande Bharat Sleeper Express between Guwahati and Kolkata on January 17, marking a pivotal advancement in long-distance overnight rail travel and further enhancing connectivity between the northeast region and eastern India.
CM Sarma previously mentioned that Prime Minister Modi will visit Assam on January 17. During this visit, he will inaugurate new train routes connecting Dibrugarh to Lucknow and Guwahati to Rohtak via Delhi, thereby integrating Assam with key regions of the nation.
During the visit, the Prime Minister will also observe the traditional Bodo dance 'Bagurumba', which highlights Assam's rich cultural heritage on a larger stage. Following this, on January 18, the Prime Minister will head to Kaziranga to lay the foundation stone for the elevated corridor project.
CM Sarma emphasized that the Prime Minister's visit underscores the Centre's dedication to the development of Assam and its environmentally sensitive infrastructure. The elevated corridor through Kaziranga has long been a flagship initiative of the Assam government, aimed at balancing conservation efforts with connectivity.
With the recent approval from the Union Cabinet, officials anticipate that the elevated corridor project will advance into the implementation stage promptly, marking a crucial step towards sustainable development in the state.
The Chief Public Relations Officer of NFR, Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, previously stated that the new-generation Vande Bharat Sleeper Express will feature a 16-coach configuration, accommodating a total of 823 passengers. The train will consist of 11 AC three-tier coaches, four AC two-tier coaches, and one First Class AC coach, providing comfortable travel options across various passenger segments.
According to the official, the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express is designed with a strong passenger focus, including ergonomically crafted cushioned berths, advanced suspension systems for enhanced ride comfort, noise-reduction technology, automatic doors with vestibules, and a modern Passenger Information System.
