Guwahati, Feb 6 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced on Thursday that solar panels placed on residential rooftops under the ambitious PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana by the Central government are yielding 24 MW of electricity throughout the state.
He emphasized that this initiative allows consumers to enjoy substantial electricity savings.
In a post on the social media platform X, CM Sarma stated, "The residents of Assam are swiftly embracing the solar power movement in the state through the @PMSuryaGhar Yojana. So far, 6,500 households have installed rooftop solar panels, generating more than 24 MW of energy, which has led to significant savings for the populace."
At a recent summit organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, mentioned, "The government aspires to reach 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, with a long-term vision of 1,800 GW by 2047. This goal would place India as a global frontrunner in renewable energy while fulfilling its energy requirements and aiding global decarbonization efforts."
The minister highlighted that India's renewable energy capacity has surged from 75 GW in 2014 to over 220 GW, showcasing remarkable sector growth.
"This initiative, combined with ongoing policy support and financial investment, establishes India as a leader in the clean energy transition," said Joshi, underscoring the government's commitment to expedite the energy transition while emphasizing the necessity for energy security, stable financing, and comprehensive policies to ensure sustained advancements.
He also acknowledged the successful execution of green hydrogen initiatives and stressed the collaborative efforts of state governments, financial institutions, and stakeholders in tackling challenges like land acquisition and policy implementation.
Additionally, the minister pointed out the crucial role of energy security, finance, and policy stability in fostering this transformation, which includes the effective implementation of green hydrogen initiatives.
He reiterated the significance of state governments, bankers, and other stakeholders in facilitating this transition.
