Jammu, Dec 6 (NationPress) IndiGo Airlines announced on Saturday the resumption of 11 flights from Jammu airport while simultaneously cancelling seven flights from Srinagar airport due to disruptions linked to pilot rostering issues.
For the past five days, passengers have faced challenges at Jammu airport as a result of the nationwide disruptions affecting IndiGo flight services.
Among its eight scheduled flights, the airline confirmed the cancellation of seven flights from Srinagar International Airport.
“IndiGo had planned to operate 36 flights from Srinagar airport on Saturday, consisting of 18 inbound and 18 outbound. However, due to rostering complications, seven arriving and seven departing flights were cancelled. Additionally, the movement of another flight from a different airline was also impacted,” officials reported.
While nine restored services at Jammu Airport will proceed as scheduled, two flights connecting Jammu with Mumbai and Hyderabad remain suspended for the time being,” officials at Jammu airport noted.
It's essential to highlight that the cancellation and delay of all domestic flights by IndiGo have now extended into the fifth day. This situation has affected tens of thousands of passengers, raising concerns about prolonged delays and increased travel expenses.
On Friday, the airline expressed its apologies for the extensive crisis and assured passengers that refunds would be issued for all cancelled flights.
The disruptions stemmed mainly from an unanticipated pilot shortage due to planning deficiencies, and authorities are closely monitoring the issue.
Operating 2,300 flights daily with a fleet of over 400 aircraft, IndiGo has witnessed a significant decline in its punctuality due to these operational disruptions, which are expected to persist for several more days.
On Saturday, the Civil Aviation Ministry took note of concerns regarding the unusually elevated airfares being charged by certain airlines amid the ongoing disruptions.
All airlines have been directed to strictly comply with the fare caps that have been implemented, which will remain in effect until full stabilization of the situation, as stated by the ministry.
