An airport representative confirmed that 117 flights were cancelled, comprising 56 arrivals and 61 departures. This represents one of the highest cancellation tallies in the last six days at Hyderabad, although the numbers have decreased from Friday and Saturday.
On Friday, 155 flights were cancelled, followed by 144 on Saturday. Over 500 flights have been scrapped at RGIA since December 2.
Many passengers found themselves stranded due to these cancellations, resulting in heated exchanges with IndiGo staff. To address this situation, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has increased security measures at the airport as a precautionary step to avert any incidents.
The cancellations on major domestic routes have wreaked havoc on passengers' travel plans for six consecutive days, impacting departures and arrivals on vital routes such as Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Visakhapatnam, Goa, Madurai, and Bhubaneswar.
Passengers were seen seeking information about alternative flights and refunds for the cancelled services.
To assist stranded Ayyappa devotees, a few flights were operated to Kochi.
According to officials, the passenger influx has decreased with the introduction of additional flights by SpiceJet and other arrangements.
The Road Transport Corporation has initiated special bus services for travelers heading to Bengaluru, Chennai, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, and Rajahmundry.
Additionally, the South Central Railway has announced special trains to Chennai, Mumbai, and Kolkata.
In a related note, 10 IndiGo flights were also cancelled at Visakhapatnam Airport. IndiGo stated on Saturday that it has reduced operations to stabilize its system and is actively working to restore normalcy across its network. The airline's teams are dedicated to stabilizing schedules, minimizing delays, and supporting customers during this challenging period.
