Hyderabad, Dec 9 (NationPress) Flight services at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad have faced ongoing disruptions for the eighth day in a row, with IndiGo cancelling 58 flights scheduled for Tuesday.
The cancellations included 14 arrivals and 44 departures on major routes such as Delhi, Mumbai, Goa, Cochin, Visakhapatnam, Varanasi, Patna, Srinagar, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Prayagraj, Lucknow, Chennai, and Jodhpur.
For the first time since December 4, the number of daily cancellations has dipped below 100. On Monday, IndiGo had cancelled 112 flights, and the daily cancellation rate has been decreasing since December 6.
Despite this, passengers continue to experience significant inconvenience due to the ongoing cancellations, with over 600 IndiGo flights cancelled at the Hyderabad airport since December 2.
On Tuesday, IndiGo also cancelled six flights at Visakhapatnam airport.
Authorities have arranged alternative options for stranded travelers, with SpiceJet operating extra flights to manage the situation.
South Central Railway (SCR) and Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) are providing special services as well.
The SCR is running special trains to destinations including Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, and Howrah.
The TGSRTC is operating special bus services to Chennai, Bengaluru, Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, Kakinada, and Visakhapatnam.
IndiGo reported that on Monday, it operated over 1800 flights, an increase from 1,650 on Sunday, and confirmed that network coverage has been fully restored.
The airline noted an improvement in on-time performance (OTP) across its network, which reached 90% on Monday, up from 75% previously.
IndiGo also disclosed that it has refunded Rs 827 crore, with the remaining refunds in process for cancellations up to December 15.
The airline has accommodated stranded passengers by arranging over 9,500 hotel rooms and nearly 10,000 transport options from December 1 to 7.
In total, over 4500 bags have been returned to customers, with plans to deliver the remaining items within the next 36 hours.
