Atishi Urges CEC for Immediate Discussion on Voter List Anomalies

New Delhi, Jan 8 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Delhi, Atishi, has penned a new letter to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) on Wednesday, requesting an urgent meeting.

Atishi has persistently voiced her concerns over the irregular removal and addition of thousands of voters within the New Delhi constituency. In her letter, she stated, “With fewer than 27 days remaining until the Delhi Assembly elections, this issue must be treated with utmost urgency... I kindly request an appointment at your earliest convenience to ensure that the upcoming elections in Delhi are conducted in a free and fair manner.”

During a recent press briefing, Atishi disclosed that from December 15 to January 2, applications for incorporating 10,500 new voters were submitted in the constituency. She also highlighted that 6,167 applications for voter deletions were lodged between November 29 and January 2, with a staggering 4,283 of these deletion requests made by only 84 individuals.

In the meantime, former Chief Minister Kejriwal accused the BJP of instructing seven of its MPs to fabricate votes in the New Delhi Legislative Assembly within the next few days. “We will monitor how many new voter applications come in shortly. Everyone should be vigilant. Atishi ji has requested a meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner, and we hope to receive a slot soon,” he remarked on X.

Below is the complete text of Atishi’s letter to the CEC:

This correspondence pertains to my earlier letter dated 05.01.2025, which brought to light the extensive voter deletions and additions within the New Delhi assembly constituency. I had sought a meeting at your esteemed office to present this matter in person. However, in response, my office has received a communication (attached) from Shri Lalit Mittal, Deputy Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi, indicating that they are in the process of verifying the facts mentioned in my correspondence.

Sir, in my previous letter, I requested an urgent meeting with you to discuss this matter in detail and seek guidance, as this issue exceeds the jurisdiction of the local Chief Electoral Officer. With less than 27 days remaining before the Delhi Assembly Elections, this situation should be prioritized. Delhi is the only state conducting elections at this time, and the entire nation along with its media will closely scrutinize the elections and their processes. We rely on the Election Commission of India to uphold the tenets of free and fair elections.

Once again, I kindly urge you to grant an appointment at your earliest convenience to ensure that the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections are conducted in a fair and just manner.
