Gandhinagar, Jan 21 (NationPress) Philip Green, the High Commissioner of Australia to India, recently visited Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar, where discussions revolved around sports infrastructure, Olympic readiness, higher education, and renewable energy collaboration.
During this meeting, the Chief Minister emphasized Gujarat's eagerness to utilize Australia's expertise for the sustainable and long-term management of Olympic facilities, including housing and sports venues.
In light of the preparations for the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games, both parties explored Australia's strategies for infrastructure planning and post-Games utilization.
High Commissioner Green elaborated on plans for the facilities developed for the Brisbane Olympics, which aim to be repurposed post-event, transforming into public housing and student accommodation, while sports venues will cater to various events and community activities.
He extended an invitation to Gujarat for a high-level delegation to visit Brisbane and witness the Olympic preparations, expressing Australia’s interest in collaborating with Gujarat on advanced sports training, notably in swimming, para-athletics, and high-performance centers.
The Chief Minister welcomed this initiative, asserting that collaboration with Australia would enable Gujarat's athletes to access world-class training systems, thereby enhancing their performance for the 2036 Olympic Games.
Furthermore, the High Commissioner informed the Chief Minister about plans to establish a comprehensive sports ecosystem through Deakin University at GIFT City. This initiative aims to transcend traditional centers of excellence by integrating sports science, research, and business programs.
He also invited the Chief Minister to attend Deakin University’s inaugural convocation ceremony, scheduled for March 2026.
The Chief Minister noted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the relationship between India and Australia has grown stronger, with Australia’s involvement in the Vibrant Gujarat Summit fostering growth in diverse sectors including gems and jewellery, textiles, life sciences, and pharmaceuticals.
While commending Gujarat’s rapid advancements in renewable energy, High Commissioner Green expressed Australia’s readiness to share its expertise to facilitate the state's transition to renewable energy.
He also praised the solar rooftop training facilities at Pandit Deendayal Energy University, which can train up to 2,000 participants, emphasizing the increasing involvement of women in these programs.
The meeting saw participation from Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Sanjeev Kumar, Secretary Ajay Kumar, Managing Director of iNDEXTb Keyur Sampat, and other senior officials.
