Bangladeshi National Frequently Shifted Locations in Bengal

Kolkata, Dec 29 (NationPress) Abiyur Rahaman, the illegal Bangladeshi infiltrator, was apprehended on December 27 by Kolkata Police at a hotel on Marquis Street in central Kolkata, possessing counterfeit Indian identity documents such as a passport. Since settling permanently in India in 2023, he had been regularly changing his living arrangements.

According to Kolkata Police insiders, although he began residing in various locations throughout West Bengal in 2023, he initiated the process of acquiring fake Indian documents as early as 2017.

Sources indicate that he followed a specific pattern, first obtaining a ration card, then proceeding to acquire an EPIC, PAN, and Aadhaar cards, culminating in a fraudulent Indian passport in 2023, after which he established permanent residence in West Bengal.

At the time of his capture, he concealed his possession of a fake Indian passport, which was subsequently uncovered by investigating officials.

He initially resided in Madhyamgram in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal before relocating to the minority-dominated Khidirpur area in south Kolkata. His last two known accommodations were in the New Market area and finally at the hotel on Marquis Street where he was arrested.

A police insider stated that the frequent changes in his places of stay raised suspicions among investigating officers that Rahaman might have been involved in something significant, which they are attempting to unravel through interrogation.

Interestingly, the hotel from which Rahaman, originally from Nariel in Bangladesh, was taken into custody is situated on Marquis Street under the Park Street Police Station in central Kolkata. This is the same area where former Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) associate Selim Matabbar was arrested while pretending to be an Indian citizen with a counterfeit passport.

Additionally, there are numerous hotels in the Marquis Street area catering to Bangladeshi citizens visiting India on either tourist or medical visas.
