Another Bangladeshi Immigrant Detained in Kolkata Hotel

Kolkata, Dec 27 (NationPress) - On Friday, Kolkata Police detained an illegal Bangladeshi immigrant from a hotel in the city where he had been living for an extended period while masquerading as an Indian citizen with the aid of forged identity documents.

The individual, identified as Abiyur Rahaman, 37, hails from Narail district in neighboring Bangladesh. His arrest took place at a hotel on Marquis Street under the jurisdiction of Park Street Police Station in central Kolkata, which is the same area where the former Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) associate, Selim Matabbar, was apprehended. Matabbar was also residing in a hotel while posing as an Indian citizen using a counterfeit passport.

It is noteworthy that numerous hotels in the Marquis Street area accommodate Bangladeshi nationals visiting India on either tourist or medical visas.

Due to the ongoing crisis in Bangladesh, these hotels are being closely monitored by the city police.

According to sources from the city police, Rahaman initially entered Indian territory illegally through the porous borders of West Bengal and subsequently acquired fraudulent Indian documents, including ration cards, EPIC, PAN cards, and ultimately, an Aadhaar card, facilitated by a local syndicate that specializes in providing fake Indian identity documents to Bangladeshi infiltrators.

Investigators believe that Rahaman later relocated to Kolkata to secure a counterfeit Indian passport for himself. He will be brought before a court where police custody will be requested for further questioning.

Investigating officials have recognized a recurring pattern in the operations of these syndicates involved in providing fake Indian passports to illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators. Any infiltrator who illegally crosses into Indian territory contacts local agents and expresses a willingness to pay substantial amounts for obtaining fake Indian identity documents. They are initially offered safe accommodation in various villages near the borders with Bangladesh, both land and coastal.

Subsequently, the agents arrange for counterfeit ration cards, which serve as the initial step in creating additional identity documents. With these fake ration cards, they can then obtain other identification documents such as EPIC, PAN, and Aadhaar cards. The final step involves acquiring fake passports based on these other fraudulent identity documents.
