New Delhi, Oct 15 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday honored the memory of the late A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, former President of India, on his birth anniversary, emphasizing that his journey serves as a testament to the diligence essential for achieving success.

Reflecting on Kalam's legacy, the Prime Minister noted that he was recognized as a 'Rashtra Ratna' before he became 'Rashtrapati' and will persist in inspiring the nation towards becoming robust and self-sufficient.

Kalam, who was born into a humble Tamil Muslim household in Rameswaram, began selling newspapers as a child to support his family. He eventually emerged as a prominent Indian aerospace scientist and served as the 11th President of India. Known as the 'Missile Man of India', he significantly contributed to the advancements in India's missile and nuclear weapon programs.

He played a pivotal role in the 1998 Pokhran-II nuclear tests. In 2002, he was elected President of India and earned the title of 'People's President'.

In a post on X, PM Modi stated, 'As we remember Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Ji on his birth anniversary, we reflect on a visionary who inspired the youth and urged our nation to dream without limits. His life teaches us that humility and hard work are key to success. Let us strive to create the India he envisioned—an India that is strong, self-reliant, and compassionate.'

The Prime Minister also shared a video message honoring the former President, reaffirming his continued inspiration to the populace.

'Abdul Kalam's existence is so rich and significant that recalling him fills us with pride. Yet, it also evokes a yearning for his presence among us. With his blessings, we aspire to learn from and embody the teachings he imparted. Before he took on the role of 'Rashtrapati', he was a 'Rashtra Ratna'. His legacy will continue to motivate the citizens of our nation,' PM Modi remarked.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also expressed his respects on social media during this occasion.

'A scientific mastermind, Kalam Ji propelled our nation’s capabilities in science, defense, and technological innovations to new heights through his unwavering patriotism and the principle of India First,' Shah posted.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, while paying his respects to Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, characterized him as 'a visionary scientist, inspirational leader, and true patriot.'

'His steadfast commitment to India’s defense, science, and youth empowerment fortified our nation's self-reliance. The 'Missile Man of India' continues to motivate generations to dream big, innovate tirelessly, and contribute to nation-building. His life and legacy are permanently imprinted in the hearts of every Indian,' the Minister shared on his X handle.

Jammu and Kashmir Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha also honored Kalam, describing him as 'a man of simplicity, integrity, wisdom, knowledge, and perseverance.'

'Dr Kalam dedicated his life to constructing a stronger, self-sufficient India. His vision and ideals continue to inspire all of us,' he added.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to X, stating, 'Remembering the Missile Man of India, APJ Abdul Kalam, on his jayanti today. His contributions to Bharat's scientific efforts, particularly in national security, will always remain unmatched. Tributes to the great soul who prioritized the nation and its people.'
