Kolkata, Sep 6 (NationPress) A ticket examiner faced an unexpected attack while performing her duties at Baruipur station in the South 24 Parganas district on Saturday.
A passenger threw hot ghugni (a chickpea dish) at the face of a female ticket examiner (TTE) when she requested to check her ticket.
This incident caused quite a stir on the Sealdah South section of the Eastern Railway.
As reported by the railway police, the local train was stationed at platform number 2 of Baruipur Junction on the Sealdah South line. TTE Pooja Kumari was checking tickets in the women’s compartment when she noticed that two passengers were occupying seats since Subhashgram station. While others were showing their tickets, one of the women threw hot ghugni at her face under the pretense of presenting her ticket.
The hot ghugni struck her eyes, causing intense pain. Despite the sudden assault, she managed to call for help and attempted to bring the accused down from the train.
Upon hearing her cries, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel arrived promptly, apprehending the accused passenger.
The identified assailant, Saida Bibi, who resides in the Subhashgram area, had a ticket from Subhashgram to Sealdah but had not purchased one for her journey to Baruipur. RPF officials confirmed that she was handed over to the Government Railway Police.
The injured ticket inspector has since lodged a formal complaint with the Baruipur GRP, seeking legal action against the offender.
This incident follows another recent attack on a female TTE at Canning Station, where a passenger had assaulted her after boarding the Down Ballygunge-Canning local without a ticket. Fortunately, she was rescued by fellow passengers, and the assailant was apprehended.
