Kolkata, Nov 5 (NationPress) The relatives of a gold trader, reportedly abducted and murdered in the Newtown vicinity of Kolkata, have lodged a complaint with the police against the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Rajganj in Jalpaiguri, authorities stated on Wednesday.

The family of the deceased trader, Swapan Kamilya, has accused Rajganj BDO Prashant Barman in their complaint.

On October 28, Kamilya's remains were discovered in a ditch located in Jatragachi.

Kamilya, who resided in Dilmatia village within West Midnapore district, owned a gold shop in Duttabad, situated in the Salt Lake area of Kolkata.

Authorities revealed that during the inquiry, it was uncovered that gold jewelry had been pilfered from BDO Prashant Barman's residence in August. Subsequently, the caretaker disclosed that he had sold the stolen gold to Swapan Kamilya.

Following this, Barman visited Kamilya's home in West Midnapore, but the gold trader was absent.

Kamilya's family claimed that the BDO had issued death threats against him, submitting a video of such threats to the Mohanpur police station.

According to police reports, the BDO later reached out to Kamilya, who assured him he would return the stolen jewelry.

On October 27, Barman arrived at Kamilya's shop in Duttabad, accompanied by five individuals.

“Kamilya and his landlord were abducted in a vehicle and taken towards Newtown. After traveling a short distance, the landlord was released, and he couldn't specify where Kamilya was taken,” police quoted the complainant.

The following day, police discovered Kamilya's bloodied body and transported it to R. G. Kar Medical College and Hospital.

According to police sources, Kamilya's body exhibited multiple signs of injury.

On Tuesday, Kamilya's brother-in-law, Debashis Kamilya, formally filed a complaint at the Bidhannagar South police station.

A case has been initiated against Barman under the sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita pertaining to kidnapping, murder, and evidence tampering.

The Bidhannagar South police have also gathered CCTV footage from the area, and the investigation is ongoing.
