Kolkata, Nov 9 (NationPress) A police probe into the shocking murder of a gold trader from West Midnapore district in West Bengal has uncovered that Prashant Barman, the Rajganj Block Development Officer (BDO), is significantly implicated in the case as per the complaint filed by the victim's family.
Authorities have arrested two individuals linked to the crime, one of whom is the BDO's driver, and they have admitted to the murder.
The suspects have informed investigators that the BDO was complicit in the incident.
During their interrogation, they revealed that four additional individuals were present on the scene when the murder occurred.
Despite these claims, the BDO has refuted all allegations against him.
Reports indicate that on the day of the crime, the accused arrived at the gold shop in Duttabad in a vehicle equipped with a blue beacon, where the trader was brutally assaulted.
The victim succumbed after being struck with a belt and a stick, ultimately losing consciousness.
Subsequently, the trader's body was transported in the car and disposed of near a canal in the Jatragachi area of New Town.
It is alleged that the BDO fled the city the day following the murder.
The driver, Raju Dhali, one of the suspects, drove the BDO to Kolkata's Dum Dum Airport in the same vehicle used to bring the victim.
On Saturday, police successfully apprehended two individuals related to the kidnapping and murder of the gold trader, whose remains were discovered in the New Town area near Kolkata last month.
Police confirmed the arrests of Raju Dhali and his associate, Tufan Thapa.
Raju Dhali resides in the Rajarhat area of New Town and serves as the driver for the Rajganj BDO, while Tufan is reportedly a friend of the BDO.
The family of the deceased gold trader, identified as Swapan Kamilya, had lodged a formal complaint against Prashant Barman in Jalpaiguri district, citing kidnapping and murder.
