Kolkata, June 14 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, on Saturday accused the Mamata Banerjee-led and Trinamool Congress-governed state administration of willfully dismantling a tea garden in north Bengal, which has been essential for the livelihoods of the local tribal population.
In his statement issued on Saturday, the BJP leader asserted that the destruction of the tea garden exemplifies the state government's anti-Tribal approach.
Adhikari provided a video showing a JCB machine actively uprooting the plantation at the tea garden located in Rasikbil, Tufanganj in Cooch Behar district. The video also featured several policemen overseeing the operations.
“The Mamata Banerjee Government has once again showcased its anti-tribal agenda. Just yesterday, a tea garden in Rasikbil, Tufanganj, which serves as the sole income source for our tribal communities, was mercilessly destroyed using a JCB. This represents a direct assault on the survival of the tribal populace in North Bengal, as they do not constitute a favorable vote bank for the Trinamool Congress,” the Leader of the Opposition remarked in his statement, which was shared on X along with the pertinent video.
Additionally, Adhikari mentioned that the Chief Whip of the BJP's legislative assembly in West Bengal, Shankar Ghosh, addressed the matter during the ongoing monsoon session on the fifth day.
“We will not stand for this injustice against our tribal community. I assure my tribal brothers and sisters that if this destruction continues, we will unite the tea plantation workers and local residents to launch a significant movement against this oppressive government,” his statement read.
As of the time of this report, there had been no response from either the state government or the ruling Trinamool Congress regarding the situation.
