New Delhi, June 15 (NationPress) The Mathura Police, in partnership with the Special Operations Group (SOG), successfully dismantled a notorious inter-state gang involved in a series of looting and chain snatching events throughout Uttar Pradesh.
The operation took place on Saturday near the Shahzadpur bridge in the Farah police station area of Mathura.
Responding to a confidential tip-off, the SOG and local police executed a raid near the deserted Kalpataru building along National Highway-19. As officers attempted to apprehend the suspects, they faced heavy gunfire from the criminals. In response, the police returned fire, injuring three members of the gang.
The injured suspects, identified as Gopal (27), a known criminal from the Kirawali police station in Agra; Bharat (23); and Guddu (48), also from Agra, suffered gunshot wounds to their legs and were promptly transported to a government hospital for treatment, where their condition is currently stable. The fourth suspect, Sumit (22), was arrested without injury at the scene.
Police officials confirmed that this gang was behind several notable snatching and robbery incidents, including the theft of earrings from a woman near Raipura Jat on May 12, the theft of a mobile phone from a tempo passenger on May 22, and a chain snatching in Shamsabad, Agra, on June 9.
Operating with precision, the gang typically used motorcycles to follow their victims, often targeting women on secluded roads, snatching gold jewelry and mobile phones before fleeing the scene.
During the operation, police recovered a substantial amount of stolen property and illegal weapons, including a gold-plated earring, a stolen Android Moto G smartphone, Rs 30,000 in cash believed to be linked to the loot, four country-made pistols (.315 bore), live and spent cartridges, a Pulsar motorcycle without a number plate, and a stolen Splendor motorcycle.
Authorities are optimistic that this breakthrough will result in a significant decrease in chain snatchings and other street crimes in the Mathura and Agra districts.
Legal proceedings have commenced, and further investigations are ongoing to identify additional gang members and recover more stolen goods.
