Bengal School Employment Case: Charges Expected to be Filed Today by ED

Kolkata, Dec 23 (NationPress) The charge framing procedure for the case initiated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) concerning the cash-for-school job scandal is slated for the second half of Monday at a special court in Kolkata.
However, sources indicate that the investigation team is uncertain about the successful completion of the charge framing due to the potential absence of two principal individuals named as defendants in the case.
One of these individuals is the primary accused, Sujay Krishna Bhadra, who has previously avoided court appearances citing medical issues.
Additionally, there is no assurance that another accused, Kalyanmoy Bhattacharya, currently residing abroad, will be able to attend the special court hearing on Monday.
Kalyanmoy Bhattacharya is the son-in-law of former West Bengal Education Minister and Trinamool Congress Secretary General Partha Chatterjee, who is also a key accused in the ED's investigation and is expected to appear in person at the special court.
According to legal regulations, the charge framing process cannot be finalized unless all individuals named as accused in the charge sheet are present in court on the day set for the charges to be framed.
For individuals listed in the charge sheet, their presence is mandated in court. If the accused is an institution or corporate entity, a representative from that entity must attend.
The ED has included a total of 54 parties in the subsequent charge sheets related to the school job case, comprising 29 individuals and 24 corporate entities and trusts.
The main trust mentioned in the charge sheet is the Babli Chatterjee Memorial Trust, named after the late spouse of Partha Chatterjee. The ED asserts that funds from the school job case were misrepresented as donations to this trust, leading to their diversion.
