Kolkata, Nov 20 (NationPress) The Election Commission of India (ECI) has established a target for daily digitisation of enumeration forms to ensure the completion of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in West Bengal by the end of the month. This directive is aimed at the booth-level officers to facilitate the process.
Each Booth Level Officer (BLO) is required to upload 150 enumeration forms collected from voters using the special application provided by the ECI. This daily target aligns with the ECI's prior goal of finalising the digitisation by the conclusion of November, according to an insider from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), West Bengal.
There are a total of 80,681 BLOs assigned for the revision process.
As per the statistics from the CEO's office, by Wednesday at 6 p.m., approximately 1.48 crore enumeration forms have been digitised, representing around 19 percent of the overall 7,64,11,983 enumerations distributed among voters in the state.
The total electorate in West Bengal as of October 27 stands at 7,66,37,529, indicating that 2,25,546 enumeration forms remain to be distributed.
The SIR process is currently underway in 12 Indian states and Union Territories, including West Bengal, with the objective of completing it by March next year.
Current statistics reveal that the digitisation completion rate in West Bengal, at around 19 percent, lags behind states like Goa at 48.50 percent, Rajasthan at 40.90 percent, Madhya Pradesh at 22.23 percent, and Gujarat at 20.88 percent.
The last SIR conducted in West Bengal was in 2002.
Voters whose names or their parents' names were included in the 2002 voters' list will automatically be considered valid in the current SIR process. Those not listed will need to provide any of the 11 identity documents specified by the ECI to maintain their names in the voters' list.
Although the Aadhaar card has been included as a 12th document, the ECI clarified that individuals submitting Aadhaar cards must also provide one additional document from the specified 11.
