Bengaluru, July 31 (NationPress) In a deeply troubling incident, a 22-year-old nurse tragically ended her life after facing harassment from her friend's father within the jurisdiction of the Nelamangala police station, officials revealed on Thursday.

The victim, identified as Bhavana, resided in Gyarahalli, located in Tumakuru district.

Authorities reported that she was subjected to blackmail and harassment over a personal photograph by the father of her classmate, known as Naveen.

While she was studying nursing in Mysuru, Bhavana’s father would transfer funds to Naveen’s daughter via Bhavana’s mobile account. Allegedly, Naveen accessed Bhavana’s contact information through his daughter and began to reach out to her.

After Bhavana completed her studies, she took a position as a staff nurse in a private hospital in Tumakuru. Naveen continued to maintain contact, even taking her to Dharmasthala.

During this trip, he purportedly captured a private photo of her and subsequently began to threaten her with demands to marry him.

He insisted that she sever ties with anyone else and threatened to make her private photo public if she did not comply, according to police accounts.

Overwhelmed by this harassment, Bhavana attempted suicide 15 days prior. Following this incident, her father lodged a harassment complaint against Naveen at the Chelur police station. After hospitalization, she recovered, and the police issued a warning to Naveen while providing counseling to the victim.

However, on Thursday, Bhavana tragically took her own life by hanging at her aunt’s home in Nelamangala, where she had recently gone to stay. Her family has since filed another complaint with the Nelamangala police.

The police are currently investigating the details of this case.

It’s worth noting that this incident echoes a previous case where a 25-year-old software engineer, Suhasi Singh, also took her life on January 12, following alleged blackmail and mental harassment by her aunt’s husband, Praveen Singh, at a Bengaluru hotel.

According to reports, Praveen, an employee at a private firm, recorded intimate moments with Suhasi and used the footage to threaten her. He coerced her to comply with his demands, threatening to share the videos with her parents if she refused.

Suhasi had been living with Praveen and his family in KR Puram and had a brief relationship with him. However, she began to pull away from Praveen after getting close to another man.

Point of View

It is imperative to recognize the pressing need for societal change regarding the treatment of harassment victims. This tragic event underscores the critical importance of addressing emotional abuse and ensuring that victims receive the support and protection they require.
