Bengaluru's Army Day Mela 2025: A Hands-On Experience with Indian Soldiers and Weaponry
On January 12, 2025, Bengaluru witnessed an exhilarating 'Know Your Army Mela' organized by the Indian Army to commemorate the 77th Army Day, drawing thousands of students, NCC cadets, and civilians.

Bengaluru, Jan 12 (NationPress) Thousands of students, NCC cadets, and young people experienced a thrilling day as the Indian Army celebrated its 77th Army Day with the 'Know Your Army Mela 2025' in Bengaluru.

The event, which took place on Saturday at the Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Ground, provided attendees with the rare chance to interact with and physically handle exotic weaponry.

Organized by the headquarters of the Karnataka and Kerala Sub Area, Major General V.T. Mathew, the General Officer Commanding, inaugurated the festivities by releasing tricolour balloons and honoring the 'Veer Naris'.

A diverse crowd, consisting of students, NCC cadets, and civilians from various age groups, attended the Mela and gained invaluable insights into the lives of Indian soldiers.

Participants were given the unique chance to engage with soldiers and learn about the weaponry on display.

Activities such as horse riding and rope climbing added to the day's excitement.

Children and elderly visitors were particularly thrilled to have a rocket launcher rested on their shoulders.

The army motorbike maneuvers and para-motor demonstrations provided a spectacular visual experience.

Visitors had the opportunity to climb into tanks and explore their interiors, witnessing the equipment utilized by soldiers.

Displays featured tanks capable of mine-clearing, bulletproof vehicles, missiles, NBC (nuclear, biological, and chemical) warfare suits, drones, and communication systems.

A standout moment of the event was the performance by the Shwet Ashwa Motorcycle Display Team of the Corps of Military Police, who hold a Guinness World Record.

The Khukri dance, representing the valor and warrior spirit of the Gorkhas, performed by the 4/8 Gorkha Rifles, also captivated attendees.

Major Deep Chandra from the 4/8 Gorkha Rifles remarked to IANS, "This event is organized to celebrate Army Day. The main purpose of showcasing weapons is to provide people with a first-hand experience of items they typically see on television, films, or in video games. It is a significant moment for them. As aspiring soldiers, we dreamt of holding these weapons. Today, civilians are eagerly lining up at the weaponry stalls to experience this for themselves. The event conveys that the army is accessible and welcomes everyone. Our goal is to create awareness and offer civilians a chance to connect with the Armed Forces."

He continued, "This is an important step in raising awareness among civilians about the Armed Forces. Events like this allow them to understand a soldier's life and how weapons are used in defense."

Ankit, a student from Saint Joseph University, shared, "It was an incredible experience to see weapons up close. It motivates me to join the Indian Army and helps me prepare for my upcoming exams. Special thanks to Major General V.T. Mathew for showcasing the weapons. My father is in the army, and I've been familiar with army life for 20 years."

NCC Cadet Abhishek expressed his feelings, "I feel inspired to join the army and serve the country after attending this event and experiencing the weapons. I've always wanted to join the army, which is why I joined the NCC. Hopefully, I will get the chance to serve India."

Another visitor, Aditya, noted, "My father recently retired from the army. I have always been motivated to join the forces and have already taken the necessary exams."

Vinay Kedar, a serving traffic policeman in Bengaluru, encouraged others, saying, "I want to urge all youth to attend events like this and pursue their dreams. These occasions inspire individuals to join the Army, Navy, or Air Force—wherever they aspire to serve. It's a fantastic event, and I am thrilled to be here."

His daughter, Kavalavi Kedar, added, "I am proud of the Indian Army. Holding rifles gave me goosebumps, and I feel motivated to join the army."

Rissa Cauvery commented, "The NCC trains you to join the Army, which is remarkable. Army life is extraordinary."

"It's quite fascinating. The most intriguing part is that they are allowing us to get up close and personal with all the weapons. Typically, such events are more restrictive. I had applied to join the Army, but unfortunately, I wasn't selected. This event is certainly engaging," said Aditya, who works in sales.

Raksha shared her thoughts, saying, "It's a great feeling to be here and realize how soldiers carry such heavy guns to protect our nation. It's truly inspiring. The experience motivates us to consider joining the Army. The Army personnel are very welcoming and explain everything in a detailed and friendly manner. Some of the weapons weigh seven to eight kilos! Women should also come forward and participate in all sectors, including the Armed Forces."
