Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's inauguration of the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram in Andhra Pradesh, residents of the region expressed strong optimism that the greenfield project would catalyse a new era of economic development, improved air connectivity, and large-scale employment generation. The sentiment on the ground reflected widespread gratitude toward both the Centre and the state government for delivering the landmark infrastructure project.

About the Airport

The Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram has been developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model at a cost of more than ₹5,640 crore. Designed to handle six million passengers annually, the greenfield facility is expected to significantly enhance air connectivity across North Andhra while boosting tourism, trade, investment, and employment in the surrounding districts.

Srinivas, a Vizianagaram resident and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supporter, said that under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, India was advancing rapidly in sectors such as aviation and electronics. 'Under the leadership of PM Modi, India is moving towards becoming a developed nation, particularly in sectors such as aviation and electronics,' he said, also crediting Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Nara Lokesh, and Pawan Kalyan for working toward the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.

Srinivas drew a direct line between past governance and the current development push, noting that Chief Minister Naidu's earlier Vision 2020 had transformed Hyderabad into a global IT hub. He expressed confidence that the same approach would now drive rapid progress across Andhra Pradesh. 'This is not a government that merely makes promises; it is a government that delivers through action,' he said.

Another resident, Ramu, also a TDP supporter from Vizianagaram, said the airport was the result of coordinated efforts between the Centre and the Andhra Pradesh government. 'The airport would create a brighter future for children and the next generation by generating employment opportunities for educated youth,' he said.

Vijay Lakshmi, a Vizianagaram resident, said people had already witnessed positive changes since the NDA government assumed office in the state. 'The future would be even better, with greater opportunities for children, the elderly, and every family,' she said, adding that the focus should be on attracting industries and ensuring that no one remained unemployed.

Residents and observers believe the airport will serve as a major catalyst for economic growth by attracting industries to the region. The districts of Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, and Visakhapatnam are widely expected to benefit from the improved connectivity.
