New Delhi, Jan 20 (NationPress) The Samajwadi Party has vehemently condemned the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, asserting that it is being manipulated as a political instrument to sway electoral results. The party has pledged to challenge this initiative throughout Uttar Pradesh.
Regarding the SIR, Samajwadi Party MP Virendra Singh stated to IANS, “They are attempting to employ an ineffective strategy to secure election victories via SIR. Previously in Bihar, many were unaware and SIR was newly introduced, which led to their success. However, in Uttar Pradesh, we will thwart their attempts at every booth.”
Singh emphasized that strategizing for the upcoming 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections remains a significant topic in the party's internal dialogues.
“Our primary focus is to formulate strategies for the approaching 2027 elections and to challenge the government during the forthcoming Budget Session of Parliament. Senior leaders will convene to offer direction on these matters,” Singh remarked.
Earlier this month, SP national president Akhilesh Yadav fiercely criticized the Election Commission and the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government concerning the electoral roll draft, alleging that it serves as a “conspiracy” to strategically disenfranchise specific communities while aiding the ruling party.
In a press conference, Yadav noted that no political entity initially opposed the SIR; however, apprehensions grew following the release of the draft list.
“As we feared, nearly three crore votes have been eliminated. Prior to the draft's release, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath claimed that four crore votes would be purged. How could he predict this with no data available?” Yadav questioned the integrity of the Election Commission if BJP officials continue to make such statements.
