Patna, Jan 21 (NationPress) The Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Yojana has emerged as a ray of hope for elderly residents like Ramsakhi Devi and Lalababu Rai in Motihari district, Bihar.
Both of these senior citizens were grappling with deteriorating eyesight caused by severe cataracts, making treatment almost unattainable due to their financial constraints. However, they have received free treatment and are now enjoying life with restored vision, all thanks to the Centre’s Ayushman Bharat scheme.
Launched in 2018, the Ayushman Bharat Yojana – Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) stands as the largest public healthcare initiative globally, aiding millions of underprivileged families. This program offers a health insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh to every eligible household annually.
Several beneficiaries in Motihari expressed their gratitude to the government for providing essential financial and medical assistance during challenging times.
Neetu Devi shared her story, stating that she couldn't afford her mother-in-law’s treatment until she learned about the Ayushman card, which enabled her to register for the scheme and secure cataract surgery. She expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the Modi government for implementing such a poverty-alleviating initiative.
Lalababu Rai remarked, "The Ayushman card has proven to be immensely beneficial. I received free eye surgery. I extend my thanks to the government, as my life has been illuminated once more."
Shivam Kumar, who accessed treatment for his father under the scheme, also expressed his gratitude to the government.
Dr. A.B. Singh, who performed surgeries on several patients, noted that previously, many low-income individuals avoided treatment due to financial limitations and often faced blindness. Prior to this initiative, patients had to attend various camps for treatment, which posed numerous challenges.
"Now, patients arrive with their ‘Ayushman cards’ and receive complimentary treatment," he added.
