Patna, Dec 17 (NationPress) The Director General of Police of Bihar, Vinay Kumar, on Wednesday, inaugurated a statue dedicated to Constable Amitabh Bachchan, who lost his life while bravely facing criminals during a bank heist in the Sarai region of Vaishali.
During the event, the DGP also presented an appointment letter to the widow of the martyr and announced a financial aid package of around Rs 43 lakh from the police department.
The ceremony, arranged by the Sarai Police Station, saw the presence of Tirhut Range DIG Jayant Kant, senior law enforcement officials, local residents, and numerous police staff.
While addressing the audience, DGP Vinay Kumar honored the courage displayed by Constable Amitabh Bachchan and encouraged police personnel to find motivation in his sacrifice.
He emphasized the importance of prioritizing public service and fighting crime with bravery, advising officers against distractions like social media reels.
According to the DGP, crime rates in Bihar have declined, yet he assured that every incident is treated seriously and will be addressed decisively.
Reflecting on the tragic event, he recounted that on October 23, 2023, while criminals were escaping after robbing a bank in Sarai market, Constable Amitabh Bachchan, stationed at Sarai Police Station, valiantly confronted them.
He was martyred in the line of duty during the ensuing gunfire.
Moreover, the DGP made a notable remark regarding a mass suicide incident in Muzaffarpur, where a man along with his three daughters reportedly took their own lives on Monday.
DGP Kumar conveyed the state government’s deep concern, promising that stringent actions would follow.
He highlighted that loan sharks operate with a mafia-like mentality, imposing excessive interest rates that push vulnerable individuals into despair.
“These exploitative practices will be met with zero tolerance. The police are committed to taking strong measures against illegal lending operations,” stated the DGP.
Previously, Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Samrat Choudhary also asserted that the government would act decisively against microfinance entities and private lenders.
