Patna, Nov 11 (NationPress) In the second phase of the Bihar Assembly elections, while the voter turnout remained notably high, several unfortunate and alarming incidents were reported across the state on Tuesday.
In a significant event in Arwal district, a presiding officer tragically died while on duty.
Officials stated that Arvind Kumar, assigned to polling booth number 189 in Maneri Bigha under the Arwal Assembly constituency, suddenly fell ill during the voting process.
He was quickly transported to Sadar Hospital, where medical personnel pronounced him dead.
Kumar, a teacher at Kalyanpur School, had been called for election duty.
Administrative authorities confirmed the incident and noted that the officer's family would receive ex gratia compensation as per government protocols.
Additional personnel were assigned to the booth, ensuring that voting continued smoothly.
Meanwhile, in another incident in Aurangabad district, tensions mounted when a young man was reportedly assaulted at the Raipura booth.
It is claimed that the attackers attacked him for not supporting their preferred candidate.
The police have initiated an investigation into this incident.
A third election-related event emerged from Bagaha subdivision in West Champaran district, where the ECI acknowledged a video circulating on social media allegedly depicting Jeevika Didis influencing voters in favor of a specific party.
In an official announcement, the ECI remarked, "A video is being circulated on the social media platform X, which shows that Jeevika Didis are campaigning in favor of BJP candidates in the 04-Bagaha Assembly constituency and are influencing women to vote. This video is quite distant from any polling station, and the Returning Officer for the 04-Bagaha Assembly constituency has taken immediate notice of the issue."
The Commission further stated that explanations have been requested from the involved individuals, and a team for investigation has been established.
"If the allegations are substantiated based on the investigation team's report, legal measures will be enacted according to the standards and guidelines set forth by the ECI," the statement continued.
The ECI also urged the public to refrain from disseminating unverified or misleading videos on social media, highlighting the necessity of preserving the integrity of the electoral process.
Notwithstanding these isolated occurrences, voting proceeded peacefully across the majority of constituencies with stringent security measures in place.
As of 3 p.m., an average voter turnout of 60.40 percent was recorded in the second phase of the Assembly elections.
