The action unfolded in the vicinity of the Fakuli police station, where authorities recovered the stolen truck, pharmaceuticals valued in the lakhs, and safely rescued both the driver and the cleaner.
According to Muzaffarpur SSP Sushil Kumar, a gang of approximately 10 armed assailants intercepted a courier truck transporting medicines along the Hajipur-Jandaha main road.
“The perpetrators took the driver and cleaner hostage at gunpoint. The gang drove away with the stolen truck, while the driver was taken in a luxury vehicle, leaving the cleaner confined within the truck,” Kumar explained.
After the incident, the criminals diverted from the main road and attempted to escape towards Muzaffarpur via rural routes.
“During routine surveillance, a police team from Fakuli police station noticed a truck being pursued by a luxury car, raising their suspicions. When officers tried to halt both vehicles, the culprits fled,” Kumar stated.
Police quickly cordoned off the area, leading to the immediate arrest of one suspect, while others managed to escape in the cover of night through the village.
During the operation, law enforcement recovered two loaded firearms, the luxury car utilized in the crime, and the stolen truck along with its cargo of medicines.
Kumar indicated that the gang is part of an inter-district criminal network operating in Vaishali, Hajipur, and Motihari.
“The apprehended suspect is a resident of Motihari and is involved in the pharmaceutical trade. The gang's intention was to transport the stolen medicines to Motihari for sale. Other members of the gang have been identified, and ongoing raids are in progress to capture them,” Kumar added.
The SSP emphasized that the prompt police response not only salvaged medicines worth lakhs but also safeguarded the lives of the driver and cleaner.
Police operations are continuing to apprehend the remaining suspects.
