Patna, Dec 5 (NationPress) Bihar's Chief Minister Nitish Kumar convened a significant review meeting regarding the paddy procurement for the upcoming Kharif marketing year 2025–26 at his official residence in Patna.

Key officials from the Food and Consumer Protection Department and other relevant departments attended the meeting.

Pankaj Kumar, the Principal Secretary of the Food and Consumer Protection Department, provided comprehensive details on the minimum support price (MSP), procurement timeline, and targets for the new Kharif season.

He disclosed that the MSP for regular paddy is set at Rs 2,369 per quintal, whereas Grade A paddy will be priced at Rs 2,389 per quintal.

Additionally, he mentioned that the procurement period is scheduled from November 1, 2025, to February 28, 2026, with a procurement goal of 36.85 lakh metric tons. The state currently has 396 parboiled rice mills.

He informed the Chief Minister that paddy procurement has already commenced across all districts in a phased manner.

Nitish Kumar underscored that the government is committed to providing comprehensive support to farmers and instructed officials to ensure that no farmer encounters difficulties during the procurement process.

He insisted on rigorous monitoring to identify and take action against individuals who obstruct the procurement efforts.

"Paddy procurement must be efficient, seamless, and favorable for farmers," he directed.

Following the meeting, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Patna Book Fair 2025 at the iconic Gandhi Maidan on Friday evening.

Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, the Water Resources Minister, was also present at the event.

The Chief Minister toured various publishing stalls and unveiled the book “Vikas Purush”, authored by Murli Manohar Srivastava and published by Pangram Publishers.

Ratneshwar, President of the Centre for Readership Development, noted that this marks the 41st edition of the Patna Book Fair, with this year's event holding particular significance due to its historic nature.

One of the main attractions is the display of Ratneshwar's book “I”, which is acclaimed as the world's most expensive book, valued at Rs 15 crore.

This book, available in Hindi and English, is being showcased for the first time at any book fair globally.

The fair will feature over 300 events, including Mushaira, Kavi Sammelan, Gyan & Gurukul, Yuva Swar, Kavi Pathan, Jan Samvad, Cinema-Unema, Aao Natak Dekho, Campus Activities, Our Heroes, School Utsav, and more.

Daily screenings of feature films, short films, and documentaries will also take place.
