Patna, July 17 (NationPress) In yet another shocking incident, the capital of Bihar has been rocked by a brazen attack, raising grave concerns about the state’s law and order. In a scene reminiscent of a thriller movie, unidentified gunmen stormed Paras Hospital in the Shastri Nagar Police Station area on Thursday morning, targeting a young man receiving medical care. Tragically, he later succumbed to his gunshot wounds.
The victim, identified as Chandan Mishra (aged 25-30) from Sonbarsa block, Buxar, was receiving treatment in the hospital under parole.
Mishra, who had a criminal record with ten cases, including murder, had been incarcerated since 2024 and was admitted to Paras Hospital for medical reasons.
In a display of utter lawlessness in Bihar, around four armed assailants arrived on motorcycles, entered room number 209 on the second floor, and opened fire on Chandan Mishra, leaving him critically injured with gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen.
The hospital erupted into chaos as patients, staff, and visitors panicked upon hearing the gunfire.
Hospital personnel promptly alerted the Shastri Nagar police, who arrived at the scene to commence an investigation.
Mishra was transferred to the ICU, where doctors monitored his precarious condition, but unfortunately, he could not survive the attack and passed away during treatment.
According to Patna SSP Kartikeya Sharma, the young man named Chandan Mishra succumbed to his gunshot injuries.
Authorities have gathered some evidence, including spent bullets from the scene, and a forensic team has been dispatched for further analysis.
The incident has sparked political outrage, with the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, criticizing Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's administration for the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
He remarked, “Such incidents were unheard of before 2005. Now, even prominent hospitals are not safe as criminals can enter and shoot individuals inside hospital wards.”
The police are scrutinizing CCTV footage and interrogating hospital staff to identify and apprehend the attackers.
Patna has recently witnessed a surge in high-profile murders, including that of industrialist Gopal Khemka, sand trader Ramakant Yadav, grocery trader Vikram Jha, advocate Jitendra Kumar, among others.
Due to the escalating violence, Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has branded Bihar as the 'crime capital of India'.
