Patna, Sep 4 (NationPress) B. Sudarshan Reddy, the unified candidate of the INDIA alliance for Vice President, visited Patna on Thursday, engaging with leaders from various alliance parties to garner their support.
Addressing the media, Reddy emphasized, “The upcoming election represents more than just a single position; it is a battle to uphold democracy, justice, and the Constitution.”
He highlighted Bihar's historical significance, noting that the roots of social justice can be traced back 2000 years in this region.
When questioned about his transition from judiciary to politics, Reddy explained that his extensive experience in the judicial field had instilled in him the urgency of safeguarding constitutional principles, which he believes are currently under siege.
The INDIA alliance candidate portrayed his political journey as an extension of a long democratic pursuit, dating back to 1971.
“My political journey began in 1971. Today's election is merely a continuation of that path. I urge everyone to lend their support,” he stated.
Reddy shared an interesting moment with Rahul Gandhi, recounting, “When he noticed my copy of the Constitution, I told him that I've carried it for over 52 years. This Constitution is my guiding light, and it should guide our nation.”
Upon his arrival in Patna, Reddy was greeted at the airport by key figures including Bihar Congress in-charge Krishna Allavaru, State Congress President Rajesh Ram, and Congress Legislature Party leader Shakeel Ahmed. Other prominent members of the INDIA alliance, including VIP chief Mukesh Sahani, were also present to show their support.
The alliance framed Reddy’s candidacy as a beacon of democratic resilience, asserting that the Vice Presidential election is a vital opportunity to protect constitutional values from political encroachment.
Former Deputy CM and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav fully endorsed Reddy on Thursday.
He also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging that the two leaders have undermined all national institutions and are striving to dismantle democracy.
Tejashwi claimed that even the Election Commission has been compromised, accusing its officials of aligning with the BJP.
He raised concerns regarding the unexpected resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, suggesting that his silence indicates pressure from the central government.
“Those who oppose them face conspiracies,” Tejashwi asserted, insisting that Bihar is the cradle of democracy and that this Vice Presidential election is vital for upholding democratic values.
