Imphal, Jan 14 (NationPress) Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh stated on Tuesday that the government requires the collaboration and assistance of armed forces veterans to enhance the law and order conditions in the state.

While addressing ex-servicemen and their families during the 9th Armed Forces Veterans' Day ceremony at the headquarters of the First Battalion of the Manipur Rifles, the Chief Minister expressed his openness to all constructive recommendations and insights from veterans aimed at restoring peace and normalcy in the region.

He emphasized the significance of Armed Forces Veterans' Day, which is celebrated to honor and commemorate the sacrifices made by the armed forces for the country. He declared an ex-gratia amount of Rs 10 lakh for soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service.

Additionally, he highlighted that the government has allocated Rs 3 crore for the establishment of a memorial park dedicated to the armed forces personnel from the state who have died for the nation, with a half-acre site identified at Lamphelpat for this purpose.

Biren Singh noted that the state has produced two Army officers who achieved the rank of Lieutenant General. He also mentioned a meeting with the commanding officer of a nuclear submarine from the state and pointed out that approximately 350 individuals from the state are currently serving as officers in the combined defence forces.

Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the nation's reliance on foreign countries for defense equipment procurement has been significantly reduced, he remarked.

“This was accomplished through the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiative aimed at promoting self-reliance in the defense sector,” he added.

He also paid tribute to two other Manipuri heroes, Major Laishram Jyotin Singh, who made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting civilians in Afghanistan, and Major Bob Khathing, commending their bravery and dedication to duty.

Biren Singh elaborated on the necessity for the populace to correctly understand the history of the land, announcing the release of a 22-minute film titled 'Chahi Taret Khuntakpa', which will soon be broadcast on the History Channel. He underscored the historical importance of 'Chahi Taret Khuntakpa', which relates to the signing of the Treaty of Yandaboo, reaffirming Manipur's sovereignty.

The renaming of Mount Harriet in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to Mount Manipur by the Central government exemplifies the leaders' concern and profound understanding of the state's history, he concluded.
