Bengaluru, Aug 11 (NationPress) MLAs and MLCs from the BJP and JD(S) organized a demonstration on Monday at the Mahatma Gandhi statue within the Vidhana Soudha complex, prior to the Monsoon Session, in protest against the Congress-led Karnataka government regarding the tragic stampede that occurred on June 4 at Chinnaswamy Stadium, resulting in the loss of 11 lives.
The legislators brandished placards and chanted slogans denouncing the government's actions. The placards featured statements questioning the government's decision-making, such as 'why organize the event with only a day's notice, knowing thousands would attend?', 'is it just to blame police officers for the government's mistakes?', and 'how can the CM enjoy a Dosa while people lost their lives?'. Other messages included accusations that the government is accountable for the deaths of 11 young individuals.
During the protest, BJP State President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra lambasted the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and cabinet ministers for their negligence.
"Yesterday, leaders from both the BJP and JD(S) deliberated on the issues to be raised in the Assembly. Today, both BJP and JD(S) MLAs are protesting against the state government’s negligent actions that led to 11 fatalities in the stampede,” he stated.
"Rather than accepting accountability, the state government blamed officials and police, suspending them only to later revoke those suspensions. The CM, Deputy CM, and Home Minister should have taken moral responsibility, but instead, they targeted innocent personnel,” he added.
“Farmers are currently demonstrating due to fertilizer shortages, and there are no solutions being offered for irrigation concerns in North Karnataka. These crucial topics are not being addressed. We are committed to raising these issues in the Assembly. Symbolically, legislators from both parties have come together for this protest,” he emphasized.
“We will address all these issues within the Assembly. We demand that the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and this negligent government take responsibility,” Vijayendra concluded.
Also present at the protest were the Leader of the Opposition, R. Ashoka, Legislative Council Opposition Leader Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, and JD(S) Opposition Leader Suresh Babu.
Additionally, Opposition Deputy Leader Aravind Bellad, Legislative Council Opposition Chief Whip N. Ravikumar, former ministers, MLAs, and members of the Legislative Council joined the demonstration.
