Kolkata, Aug 12 (NationPress) The BJP's West Bengal unit has successfully established booth committees for the majority of polling stations in the state, a significant move in fortifying its grassroots framework ahead of the pivotal Assembly elections next year.
“Out of the 81,000 polling booths in West Bengal, booth committees have been formed for 65,000 of them. However, verification is pending for 15,000 booths, which will be finalized shortly,” stated a member of the state committee.
Each booth committee will consist of a president and two associates. A comprehensive training program for the newly appointed booth committee members is scheduled from August 16 to August 22. The verification of the remaining 15,000 booths is expected to be completed during this period, as noted by the party’s state committee member.
He acknowledged that formation work is still pending in some minority-dominated regions and areas where the process could not commence due to violence instigated by ruling Trinamool Congress activists.
The Bengal BJP has already initiated a digital survey to assess the organizational strengths at both the booth and district levels.
A party insider revealed that while the survey will cover both district and booth levels, the primary focus will be on the booth level to ensure that members of each booth committee are also voters from that booth.
A preliminary physical survey was already conducted by a team of state BJP leaders across various districts in West Bengal, where surveyors engaged at the booth levels to gather grassroots insights on actual organizational strength.
“The digital survey is the subsequent step to identify any gaps that may have been missed during the physical survey, ensuring that the grassroots organizational structure of the party is as robust as possible before the crucial West Bengal assembly elections next year,” explained the party’s state committee insider.
