BJP Criticizes Telangana Speaker's Decision as Constitutional Mockery
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, March 11 (NationPress) The BJP in Telangana has labeled the ruling by Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar as a blatant mockery of the Constitution. This judgment dismissed the petitions aimed at disqualifying BRS MLAs who defected to the ruling Congress party.
State BJP president N. Ramchander Rao described Wednesday’s decision by the Speaker regarding the disqualification petitions of Danam Nagender and Kadiyam Srihari as an absolute mockery of the Constitution.
In a post on ‘X’, Ramchander Rao took a jab at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
“The ruling issued today by the Telangana Speaker concerning the MLA defection case is a glaring example of the disregard for the Constitution that RG often claims to uphold,” the BJP leader stated.
“Take Danam Nagender as an example: he was elected to the Telangana Assembly in December 2023 representing the BRS, but soon after, he shifted allegiance to the INC and even ran for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as a Congress candidate.
“Such a clear instance should warrant disqualification. However, the Speaker prolonged the verdict for an unreasonably long period. When the decision was finally announced today, it was shocking: Danam Nagender remains recognized as a BRS MLA!!!!!! Congress has insulted and ridiculed Babasaheb Ambedkar ji’s Constitution,” Ramchander Rao lamented.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, also criticized the Speaker’s ruling.
“With all due respect to Hon’ble Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad garu, a quick search online would have provided ample evidence regarding defection cases. Did these MLAs not leave their party to join Congress? Did not the Chief Minister himself publicly endorse their shift to Congress? Did Congress not issue B-Forms to these defected candidates for the Lok Sabha elections?” Bandi Sanjay questioned.
The BJP leader further inquired whether the absence of evidence was due to the fact that senior BJP leader and Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy won the election from the Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency.
Nagender contested as the Congress candidate from Secunderabad in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
“If all this transpired openly before the entire state… how did the defection suddenly become nonexistent on paper? The people of Telangana already perceive Congress as a symbol of Anyaya, not Nyaya. If defections are accepted without scrutiny, what message are we conveying? Is this not a mockery of the Constitution? Is this not a mockery of democracy?” Bandi Sanjay challenged, sharing a screenshot from the Election Commission of India’s website confirming Nagender’s nomination as a Congress candidate for the Lok Sabha elections.
