New Delhi, July 2 (NationPress) The BJP vehemently criticized Trinamool Congress leader Manas Bhunia for labeling the recent gang-rape incident in Kolkata as a “minor occurrence,” deeming the statement profoundly disrespectful to the daughters of both West Bengal and India.
In response to Bhunia’s comments, BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh expressed that such remarks highlight the lack of sensitivity from the Mamata Banerjee administration regarding crimes against women.
“Incidents of violence against women and girls in Bengal are on the rise. Disturbing events are becoming more frequent throughout the state. By trivializing this as a ‘minor occurrence,’ a minister from Mamata Banerjee’s government has disrespected not only the daughters of Bengal but also those of the entire nation,” Chugh stated during an interaction with IANS.
He further accused the Mamata government of protecting offenders rather than delivering justice.
“There are already four FIRs lodged against the suspect, yet he was employed in a college. This indicates either a conspiracy, incompetence, or gross negligence. The Mamata administration is offering cover to criminals, and the public will not overlook this,” he asserted.
Chugh underscored the growing anxiety among women in the state, saying, “Mothers are now apprehensive about allowing their daughters to attend schools, colleges, or jobs. The government’s dismissive stance and reckless comments have fostered an atmosphere of fear across Bengal.”
In a related matter, Chugh also sharply criticized Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge’s recent suggestion of banning the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
“The mentality of Congress leaders is steeped in authoritarianism. They are accustomed to imposing bans, declaring emergencies, arresting political adversaries, silencing the media, and undermining constitutional values,” he remarked.
He charged the Congress party with being anti-national and anti-Sanatan, arguing that it has consistently sought to weaken India's traditional values.
“Rahul Gandhi is setting a perilous precedent by calling for a ban on a nationalist organization like the RSS, which aims to unite society. The RSS symbolizes service, nationalism, and commitment. The Congress has historically attempted to suppress India’s Sanatan strength. Their rhetoric resonates with that of foreign and adversarial media,” Chugh claimed.
On a more optimistic note, Chugh praised the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government’s recent employment initiative designed to encourage youth employment.
“The Union Cabinet, under PM Modi’s guidance, has endorsed a program offering a month’s salary — up to Rs 15,000 — as an incentive to first-time employees registered with the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation,” he explained.
Calling it a “new beacon of hope,” Chugh highlighted that the government’s commitment to generating 3.5 crore jobs marks a historic milestone in advancing a self-reliant India.
“This isn’t merely a statistic; it’s the bedrock of the nation’s future. Through this EPFO initiative, young employees gain both financial assistance and social security as they enter the job market. It’s a welcome and transformative measure,” he added, extending gratitude to the Prime Minister for this initiative.
